Despite the fact that cat intelligence isn’t as widely studied as dog intelligence, there are clues that you may be the proud owner of a kitty Einstein.
1. Test your cat’s follow-the-pointer skills
Take this test:
Place one treat in the cup on your left and the other in the cup on your right. You can direct the cat to the cup you want it to go to by pointing to it. Give her the treat only if she goes to the right cup.
Repeat this process ten times. When she chooses something because you point to it rather than because she smells it, how often does she say:
(a) seven out of ten approaches;
(b) fewer than seven.
Aside from the need for rewards, there are a few things that your cat’s behavior is trying to tell you.
